Teaching Philosophy:
The classroom is a space where I cultivate critical thinking, camaraderie between students, and an environment where we all make mistakes and never stop learning from one another. Additionally, I l love making learning an engaging process, and for course content to have a practical application to their everyday lives. While I try to make class enjoyable, I want them to see these connections have profound implications in their private and public lives. I want students to have confidence in their own voice, whether it is in their career or beyond. Words matter, and I want students to become conscientious citizens who feel connected to their peers and are motivated to a build strong, healthy democratic society.
Courses:
- CSS 3302 Intro to Rhetorical Theory and Criticism
Research Interests:
My primary research examines how monuments that deviate from form challenge traditional monuments and offer capacities for resistance or change around the world. Moreover, I study how built environments (museums, memorials, architecture) activate an individual's imagination to bolster or challenge the public memories of a community.
Family, Outside Hobbies, and Interests:
After five years in Happy Valley at Penn State University, I am ecstatic to be in Waco. I am a lifelong Wacoan, so being back home near loved ones is a privilege I don't take for granted! In our free time, my husband and I love exploring all things old and new in Waco. You can almost always find me either at Fabled Bookshop or Pinewood Coffee (or at home with our cat, Frankie).
What is the best thing about being a Baylor Bear?
The Communication Department! This is where I first met my husband, and we made lifelong friendships and connections with this department. It is so exciting to be back and roaming the hallways from my time as a graduate student here. Plus, the kindness and willingness to help in this department is unmatched. I'm a fan for life!
