Teaching Philosophy:
Education is a privilege that necessitates a lifelong commitment to learning which reaches far beyond the classroom and rote, traditional instruction. In essence, teaching and learning are soul work for me that require active engagement of the whole person. Self-reflexivity, critical thinking, and application of practical theory are essential to equipping students for success in all areas of life. I believe learning should be challenging, liberating, and transformative through dialogue and dialectical thinking therefore, I strive to create classroom community that fosters Brain 3.0 mental mapping, inclusivity, and mindful inquiry. These skills are necessary to help students retool and enter their chosen vocations with self-awareness, humility, and cultural intelligence. Through teach modalities rooted in active learning, problem-based learning, "real world" scenarios, and auto-ethnographic creativity I believe global impact is possible when students are trained to be ethical, purpose-driven, and sawubona (I see you, we see each other) seeking communicators.

Family, Outside Hobbies, and Interests:
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my husband Rodrick and our beautiful children Zion and Reyna. As a family, we love RVing, taking historical daytrips, attending cultural events, and relaxing at home. I love reading, journaling, binge watching various series on Netflix and Hulu, brunching with my girlfriends, and acting (yes, I have a role in a play coming in December and will continue to pursue local theatre acting opportunities so Hollywood look out!). Additionally, I have a heart for seeing other women grow spiritually and become what God has called them to be through facilitating prayer groups, Bible study, and life coaching. Did I mention I wrote my first book titled, Snap the Hell Out of It!: A Practical Guide to Moving from Straw and Sticks to a Brick Mentality in Christ?
What is the best thing about being a Baylor Bear?
The people! Many of my colleagues have become friends who are now family. We care about each other and walk through life together. When you are a part of a tremendous network of believers who intercede for you in prayer and demonstrate Christ's love in all seasons of life, it makes it easier to teach and serve students from a place of overflow. My students are also incredible! I love connecting with and learning from them. Their passion for learning and seeking truth and commitment to excellence give me life! Also, I love the privilege I have to openly integrate my faith in the coursework that I teach! Where else can you speak about the goodness of God and seek His call through communication across contexts than at Baylor? Hallelujah! It is great to be a bear!
