Internship Criteria
- You must have completed 15 hours in the major (i.e., at least 5 CSS courses).
- You must work a minimum of 100 hours over the course of the semester or Summer to earn 3 credit hours of CSS 4380: Internship in Communication. This equals approximately 7 hours a week in the Fall or Spring, or 20 hours a week in the Summer.
- To be counted as an internship, the position must apply knowledge and skills learned in the courses in the major as well as being a career-prep type position (i.e. being a server at a restaurant and other types of “college jobs” do not qualify for credit).
- The internship supervisor must fill out a “contract” at the beginning of the semester that details the duties and hours of the internship.
- The internship supervisor must fill out a student evaluation at the completion of the internship.
- You must write a 4-5 page summary about your experience at the end of the semester. Keeping a journal or weekly notes help in writing the final paper.
- Internships earned for CSS credit require you to pay tuition for those course hours.
- You can earn up to 6 hours of internship credit overall, with a maximum of 3 hours earned per term.
