Teaching Philosophy
I believe learning begins at the intersection of potential and opportunity. My role is to create open, appealing classrooms for students to learn in, knowing each one of them brings their own great potential into my courses. From that foundation, I build out my teaching from three pillars: 1) I strive to empower students by challenging them to take ownership over their learning. 2) My teaching promotes purposeful interactions and meaningful engagement by showcasing relevance and promoting curiosity. 3) In doing so, I actively support the mission of our department by building sustaining relationships and emphasizing ongoing excellence. I use these pillars to inform all aspects of my work from lesson planning and classroom management to individual coaching and mentorship.
Research Interests
I research the communicative process of resilience and its importance for individual and group dynamics, in both work and non-work domains. I am particularly interested in how individuals and groups enact communicative resilience processes amidst and following disruptive events. My research can be found in outlets such as Communication Monographs, Management Communication Quarterly, Journal of Applied Communication Research, and Communication Studies.
Family, Outside Hobbies, and Interests
When I’m not on campus, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Travis (also a Baylor grad), our three wonderful kids, two dogs, and big flock of chickens! I also enjoy cooking and sourdough bread baking. We love spending time outside and staying active as a family!
What is the best thing about being a Baylor Bear?
As a third generation Baylor Bear, I’ve loved Baylor for as long as I can remember! My siblings and I grew up attending Homecoming, sporting events, and counting down the days until we’d begin our own Baylor journeys. My time as an undergraduate was full of fond memories and fitting in as many courses and activities as I possibly could. Teaching at a university that prioritizes academic rigor alongside personal and spiritual formation is a true blessing – I truly believe it’s a university like no other!
